What Does My Score Mean?

Scores are rated between 0 and 5.

5 – There is a very low risk that your company name is being used in fraudulent email activities. Domains rated 5 are DMARC compliant and enjoy protection from spoofing and phishing. (More on DMARC below.)

4 – You have some protection, but your emails may end up in junk folders. Also, sophisticated cyber criminals could impersonate your domain.

3-0 – You have no protection and it is highly likely criminals will hijack your emails and impersonate your organisation as part of a criminal campaign.

What should I do Next?

If you score below five, you should work towards DMARC compliance.  Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance (DMARC) is a standard that, when correctly followed, helps to prevent criminals from using your domain to send fraudulent emails. DMARC ensures fraudulent emails are blocked, so that you – and your contacts and clients – do not see them in your inbox. This protects you from cyber crimes such as phishing, where criminals attempt to gain data or money through deception.

DMARC is completely free. However, it can be tricky and time-consuming to implement.
