Environmental, Social and Governance

Social Value

Our understanding of social value is underscored by our commitment to become a B-Corp. Our core values are sustainability, integrity and social and environmental responsibility, which resonates with the trust, built over many years with our customers and within our team.

Intersys is a family owned, technical-led organisation, built upon strong and lasting relationships with suppliers, customers and employees. Some clients have been with us for over 20 years and our employee turnover is well below industry average. Our support team are all UK-based, direct employees of Intersys. We do not outsource to low-wage overseas locations.

Our delivery of social value for customers and the communities that we serve can be illustrated by aligning our activities with the ambitions of the Government’s Levelling Up White Paper:

Living Standards and Housing

Intersys has created jobs in several areas outside of the Southeast, most notably in the Southwest, where 12% of our full-time staff are based. One of Intersys’ satellite offices is in Cornwall, where we engage with multiple local small business for delivery of marketing, design and software development activities. Our flexible working policies allow staff, previously working for us in the Southeast, to relocate to more remote areas in Wales and Scotland (leveraging their higher than local average salaries for housing). Intersys provided loans to help with these relocations. All our staff are paid above the Living Wage.

Research & Development

Over the past 20 years Intersys has made significant investments in its innovative software products. The software development team is managed from the Cornwall office, supported by key development resource in Scotland. Our proprietary solutions include a supply chain risk resilience tool (SCAIR®), Pupil Progress tracking system (Sentinel) and contracts management system (CCS), all of which were developed in the UK by reinvesting Intersys profits.

- SCAIR® is used by top 10 UK biopharmaceutical companies to identify key supply chain vulnerabilities and improve resilience.
- Sentinel is a SEN pupil progress tracking system, developed by Intersys in partnership with Whitefield, largely at our expense. We invested a significant proportion of our R&D budget in its development as a commitment to our relationship with what is now a part of the Learning in Harmony Trust.
- CCS is our contract management system provided license-free to another local academy trust.

Transport & Digital Connectivity

We aim to reduce the burden on transport systems and the environment by allowing our staff to work remotely. With the exception of dedicated onsite school support teams, our staff are not mandated to travel to the office. We will expand later on carbon offsetting and other environmental initiatives.

With respect to Digital Connectivity targets, Intersys was the first to install 1Gbps fibre-based ethernet connectivity to its head office premises in Bourne Court, and consequently we provide fast broadband to other businesses in the same office complex.

Education & Skills

Intersys has supported and developed 23 apprentices (representing a high proportion of staff for a growing business). In 2012 we recruited our first level 3 apprentice, who remains with Intersys and is now a pivotal member of our team, as Head of Security (Digital). We typically recruit one-two apprentices per year and have a development plan across our educational and commercial sites to aid in developing a broader range of skills, and to assist apprentices in determining their career aspirations.

Intersys is deeply committed to learning and development at all levels within our organisation. Ongoing training is a core focus of the Intersys team; we strongly encourage continued

development within the team and offer generous training budgets along with guaranteed salary increases for exam passes. All employees routinely discuss their training and learning goals; objectives are set annually during appraisals. All certifications are logged and tracked, and training is a standing agenda item on our monthly team meeting.

Health & Well-being

Intersys promotes well-being by strongly encouraging a healthy work life balance; we allow employees to work remotely, our staff enjoy more than the statutory minimum holiday leave, including birthdays and the option to buy additional holiday as part of a benefits package. Other benefits include cycle to work, financial well-being training, health cash plan, group life insurance and time off for public services and charity volunteers.

We promote the use of our Employee Assistance Programme, which supports all aspects of employee (and their family’s) mental health, providing services such as impartial and confidential personal advice and talking therapy for staff and families on a wide range of subjects.

As a management team we strive to create a friendly, collaborative and constructive ‘no blame’ culture, helped by regular team building events and away days.

We believe that the community spirit of our business and its promotion of individual well-being is reflected in staff tenure which is an average of six years (skewed lower by newly created roles generated as result of our significant growth, rather than through attrition). 60% of our team have been with us for more than three years. The longevity of the staff mirrors the stability of the management team; four board members have worked for Intersys for an average of 18 years.

Pride in Place, Contributions to Community

Wherever we do business, we aim to professionally and personally contribute to our local communities. Our Managing Director was a governor at a primary school in a disadvantaged area in Cornwall for six years. Our Technical Director was a governor at an Alternative Provision school, in addition to eight years as a Parish Councillor and a trustee of two local charities (one education focussed) for over 10 years. Our Finance Director is currently a school governor at a local primary school and has been a charity trustee. Our Risk Management Director was a volunteer vaccinator for St John’s Ambulance during the pandemic.

Intersys supports local charities and community funds through donations, discounts and pro-bono services. In particular; Intersys provides a local charity ELHAP with six hours per month of free support. We regularly donate old and repurposed equipment to local schools and charities, and our Professional Services Director gives his time freely to local housing associations and runs IT-focused webinars for charities.

Social Value in Our Supply Chains

We are committed to engaging with our suppliers in a consistent and collaborative way, ensuring reliable supply, high-quality outcomes, and sustainable partnerships. As an innovative and future-focused organisation, we actively pursue supplier relationships that complement our expertise and uphold our strict ethical standards. Our Supplier Code of Conduct outlines a robust qualification process covering ethics, environmental stewardship, labour and human rights, and quality. Where improvements are identified, we support suppliers in meeting our standards, and we reserve the right to terminate relationships if these expectations are not met. As an IT MSP supporting academies and other highly sensitive information sources, we are extremely vigilant regarding Cyber Security and Privacy standards. For instance, our 24-hour support partners are based in New Zealand (due to equivalency of their Data Privacy Regulations).

Environmental Management

Intersys started our ‘B Corp’ journey in 2024 and aim for certification by the end of 2025, reinforcing our environmental and sustainability commitments.

Our provision of goods and services contribute to Government’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy in the following ways:

Net zero and transition to renewable energy resources

As described in the Transport section above, Intersys aims to minimise its greenhouse gas emissions including by encouraging remote working, thereby avoiding unnecessary commutes. Intersys encourages our team to cycle to work, and to use public transport (e.g. our London teams are provided with company Oyster cards. We have several regional hubs in City of London, Essex, Cambridge and Cornwall to reduce travel distances to clients and partners.

We use Green Energy Electricity Supplies (100% green gas and electricity).

Transport - Promote electric vehicles

Our policy is for all company owned vehicles to be electric; a target met this quarter.

Buildings - Enhance energy efficiencies

We use low-energy appliances wherever possible. We also monitor heating and lighting for efficiency, both in our own offices and in customer environments where applicable. We use eco-friendly air source heat pumps in our London and Cornwall offices as they have lower power consumption. We have also installed low energy bulbs, motion sensor lighting and use eco server power modes.

We use recycled paper and refurbish products, where it doesn’t detract from user experience, as well as using biodegradable chemicals where practical. We assist our clients to meet their hardware recycling responsibilities by ensuring compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE).

Implementation of carbon pricing mechanisms

Intersys are proactively working to reduce our carbon footprint and have contributed to three years of 100% carbon offsetting via Ecologi, a highly reputable environmental scheme. This translates into three worthwhile global social and environmental causes; including the protection of tropical rainforests, distribution of safe, and energy efficient cooking stoves in Honduras and clean energy generation in India.

Working with global partners to tackle climate change and promote sustainable development

We recognise the importance of ensuring sustainable practices throughout our supply chain. Therefore, wherever possible, we work with suppliers who show a commitment to reducing their impact on the environment.

Recognising the urgent need to combat climate change, Intersys has proactively invested over the last three years in developing a cutting-edge climate change supply chain impact quantification module for SCAIR® software, our proprietary SCRM software tool. This advanced functionality provides invaluable support to companies, including manufacturers and leading biopharmaceutical organisations, enabling them to rigorously quantify their supply chain's climate exposure. This directly assists them in meeting TCFD / IFRS and ISSB financial disclosure requirements and, crucially, empowers them to take decisive action to mitigate their environmental footprint.

Corporate Governance

Intersys follow a structured governance framework that ensures strategic alignment, effective execution, strong ethical standards, compliance with laws and regulations, and high performance. Our corporate governance includes clear separation of responsibilities, robust oversight, and

effective operational controls to protect the company and fulfil its commitments to shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders.

We are actively pursuing B Corp certification to formally gain recognition of our robust corporate governance and social responsibility practices.

The sensitivity and complexity of our operations require strict internal management and working practices, to be able to proactively and reactively manage client IT requirements. We are a self-proclaimed ‘Cyber Security First’ MSP and have demonstrated our stringent security controls through our ISO 27001 Certification, held since 2017 (BAB Management System Certificate #223403). The recent upgrade of this standard puts greater emphasis on Privacy Protection Controls, and we have demonstrated compliance with this new version in our most recent annual surveillance audit in September 2024.

Our certified Information Security Management system includes regular review of all regulatory requirements on our business (including Data Privacy policies) and a robust Risk Management Methodology (Business Continuity and Risk Management are core competencies of our business – forming part of our key management consulting services).

We're in the process of achieving CREST accreditation, another professional security standard that demands rigorous business processes and high standards.

In addition to our well-established operational procedures, we also implement strict internal financial controls. Our accounts are reviewed annually by one of the top 100 accounting practices in the UK and are filed at Companies House. As part of our due diligence processes, we run supplier and client Credit Checks which include Directors’ histories; we do not engage with business owners that repeatedly liquidate businesses in order to avoid debts.

We also maintain a suite of company policies which all staff are required to read and adhere to, including but not limited to Health & Safety, Whistleblowing, Equal Opportunities, Modern Slavery, Corporate Hospitality (Anti Bribery) Policies. These policies are regularly reviewed and amended in line with best practice and regulatory changes.

At Intersys we are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to being a successful, caring and welcoming place for all individuals. We have created a supportive and inclusive environment that reflects the communities we serve. Our team members can reach their full potential, without prejudice and discrimination. We are committed to a culture where respect and understanding is fostered, and the diversity of people's backgrounds and circumstances will be positively valued.

The above commitment is borne out by:

- 40% of the executive directors are female

- 40% of our Senior Management Team are female.

- 40% percent of our colleagues come from diverse / under-represented backgrounds.

At Intersys we encourage staff development through a formal performance management review structure which translates into performance related pay. Internal checks ensure equal pay across the board.

As a family run business that has grown ethically based on its reputation and quality of service, we expect the same from our suppliers; treating their people and suppliers with respect and responsibility.
