Pow Wow in Powys

 Intersys Team Power in Wales

We’re just back from an adventurous and sunny weekend in the Welsh countryside for our first ever residential team building event. Intersys has now grown to 25 staff (40 counting partners and families) and it felt like the perfect time to gather, explore, feast and celebrate our fantastic team and culture.

The location was the beautiful Caer Beris Manor Hotel, a historic manor house set amidst 27 acres of parkland in the Welsh county of Powys. We were surrounded by the river Irfon and just half an hour’s drive from the stunning Brecon Beacons.

An Action Packed Weekend

There were a host of activities lined up over the weekend aimed at fostering better communication, teamwork, collaboration and trust. We kicked off Saturday with the adrenaline action of high ropes – including jumping off a high platform and trusting your colleagues to arrest your fall- and raft building — where teams had to work together to construct a raft and then negotiate the river Irfon.

The day was rounded off with a superb team dinner and equally superb drinks followed by some late night star gazing where we managed to spot Jupiter and four of her moons as well as the Whirlpool galaxy thanks to the pristine Welsh night sky.

Sunday began with a walk in the Brecon Becons with an option of three lengths depending on the size of the legs and hangovers: Taf Fechan Forest and around the Upper Neuadd reservoir, the longer route of up to the ‘Gap (shoulder of Cribyn and Fan-y-Big) and back, or the entire circuit (the 15km Pen-y-Fan horseshoe including the Gap, Cribyn, Pen-y-Fan and Corn Du).  The views from the top were stunning and well done to everyone who made the effort. A special shout out to IT Support Engineer David Bulke who joined in despite a broken collarbone!

 Some Well Earned Time Together

As well as tired legs, some minor sunburn, hangovers and impromptu swims in a very cold reservoir, we achieved a superb sense of well-being and morale. It was wonderful to see a very happy team and their families in such a spectacular setting.

Matthew Geyman, Managing Director of Intersys Ltd said “Intersys has changed dramatically over recent years and, now our team’s grown larger, the group of 40 of us had some well-earned time together, getting to know one another even better and learning to rely on each other physically, in addition to the reliance that we have in each other every day. The weather was simply phenomenal, everyone had a magnificent time with immense levels of commitment and participation and we all agreed that the sun truly does shine on the righteous.”
